FAQ/Questions and answers
At what age can Stodal be prescribed? Is it possible to take it from birth?
Stodal can be taken from birth, there is no age limit. Stodal is made as a syrup that has a caramel flavor.
In what dosage should Stodal be taken?
Stodal syrup is prescribed in the following dosage:

  • Children: 5 ml 3−5 times a day;
  • Adults: 5 ml 3−5 times a day.
The package has a measuring cap, with which you can accurately measure the required dose. The method of taking the syrup is described in detail in the instruction below.
Can Stodal cause allergic reactions?
When conducting clinical trials of Stodal in Russia and abroad there were isolated cases of allergic reactions.
How long can you take Stodal?
The duration of therapy is always determined by the individual characteristics of the child and the severity of ARVI. There is a certain rule for prescribing Stodal, which is governed by its instruction: it says that the duration of the intake is determined by the pediatrician at his discretion.
Various clinical studies have confirmed that the optimal duration of taking Stodal is 7 days. If during this period of time there is no positive therapeutic effect, it is necessary to consult with your doctor.
How exactly does Stodal work?
The effectiveness of the Stodal syrup is due to the diversity of its constituent components. Stodal has a complex anti-inflammatory and antitussive action.
From when is it necessary to take Stodal: from the first symptoms of ARVI and colds or from the moment you start coughing?
The effect of taking Stodal is more significant than before its use was started. Taking Stodal is not necessary if there is no cough. Stodal should to be taken at the first sign of coughing: the appearance of a sore throat, discomfort in the chest (the appearance of a feeling of "stuffiness" in the chest).
How effective is Stodal compared to other drugs?
The effectiveness of the Stodal syrup has been demonstrated by many Russian and foreign studies. We can mention the Russian study carried out in 2012 by Professor E. P. Selkova, in which the effectiveness of the Stodal syrup was studied in comparison with the effectiveness of the syrup containing plantain extract (a product of plant origin). It was shown that Stodal in its effectiveness is not inferior to the syrup containing plantain. In the course of the study, by the third day from the start of treatment in both groups (one group took Stodal, the other, plantain syrup), cough was noted less frequently, its intensity also decreased. By the sixth or seventh day, the cough almost disappeared in both groups. But the improvement in nighttime sleep and the degree of stopping coughing were more pronounced in the group of those children who received Stodal syrup.
In 2018, a clinical observation was conducted in Moscow under the guidance of Professor I. Zakharova with the participation of 123 children who had a cough against the background of ARVI. Stodal was prescribed to children in the first three days from the onset of the disease. A significant relief of cough when taking Stodal came already on the 5th day from the start of the reception. When taking Stodal, the severity of cough in both groups on the 7th day of treatment was statistically significantly reduced by 5 times. By the 7th day of taking in 55% of children, the cough was stopped completely, in 42% the cough became clinically insignificant. As a result, 97% of children had a positive therapeutic effect: these children were allowed to attend organized groups, they recovered. Reduced severity of cough when taking the drug Stodal was accompanied by night sleep normalization. When taking the drug Stodal not identified adverse events. Stodal was well tolerated by all children. The observation results demonstrated the efficacy and safety of the drug Stodal in the treatment of cough in children with acute respiratory infection and allow to recommend it for inclusion in the treatment regimen from the first days of the disease
Has Stodal been tested in other countries?
Yes, it has. An interesting study was conducted in Italy. It was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study in which 80 patients were divided into two groups.
One group received Stodal syrup, the other received a placebo (i.e., a drug without an active ingredient). The researchers monitored the intensity of cough and its frequency, and the viscosity of sputum was measured with a special device. The patients themselves kept a diary in which they noted all their symptoms.
By the sixth or seventh day of the study, in virtually all patients, these symptoms of cough were reduced. However, in the group of patients who received Stodal, the coughing intensity and frequency was much less pronounced than in the group receiving placebo. The viscosity of sputum in the patients group receiving Stodal was also much lower. The same changes in the severity of these symptoms were noted by patients in their diaries.
It can also be noted that Stodal syrup is sold in many countries of the world under various names.
From what point should Stodal be taken: from the first symptoms of SARS and a cold, or from the moment a cough begins?
The effect of taking the drug Stodal is the more pronounced the earlier its use was started. Taking Stodal isn’t necessary if there is no cough. Stodal should be taken at the first sign of cough development: the appearance of sore throat, discomfort in the chest (the appearance of a feeling of "stuffiness" in the chest).

Can I take Stodal during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
The use of the drug Stodal during pregnancy and during breastfeeding is possible after consulting a doctor.
